Primary Improvements

  1. Table and Cell Styles
    Pasting Tabbed Text into Tables.
  2. Photoshop Transparency Effects: Additional transparency effects such as inner glow, outer glow, bevel, emboss, inner shadow and satin, which can be applied to objects.
  3. Transparency improvements: Transparency can be applied independently to the stroke, fill, or text of an object, or to an entire object.
  4. Find/Change:
    allowing find/change on object attributes, saving queries, support for regular expressions and customizing the scope of the search.

     repeat the style sequence through to the end of the paragraph.

Tertiary Improvements

  2. Agates measurement system added.
  3. Preference for the text tool to convert graphic frames.
  4. Re-locatable snippets: Alt invokes opposite preference.
  5. The Align panel has a dropdown that allows relative to the selection, margins, page or spread.
    The Control panel also had a button that allows the user to control this option.
  6. The user can now select a resolution when exporting JPGs.
  7. Frame Fitting Options: A frame has fitting options which can be edited via the Object>Frame Fitting Options dialog. A crop amount and alignment can be specified for the placed content.
  8. Transform Improvements:
    Resizing will only resize the frame (not content); scaling always resizes content.
  9. Additional Text Wrap Options: The Text Wrap panel now contains options to wrap to the left side, right side, side toward the spine or the side away from the spine.
  10. Externalized Glyph Sets
  11. The Glyph panel displays the most recently used glyphs.
  12. Drag and Drop Unformatted Text: Holding shift will force the text to inherit the formatting of the destination.
  13. UI Customization: Photoshop-like UI available from Edit>Menus...
  14. Pathfinder operations are now scriptable

  27.  Panel dock: The panels now have a new look and feel, as well as a new behavior around attaching the panels to side. Panels can be placed into a drawer on the left or right side of the screen, and the drawer can be opened or closed. The user can also minimize the drawer to an icon view and panels can be shown or hidden individually by clicking on the panel icon.

InCopy-based Improvements

  1. InCopy Email-based Assignments using the Package for InCopy
    This command will take all the stories in an assignment, check them out, zip them into a file and open the default email client. The external contributor send the assignment back via the Package for InDesign commands.
  2. InCopy plug-ins will be installed by default
  3. Assignments panel improvements: Drag & drop from layout to panel to assign stories and graphics; story reordering done in the panel is remembered.
  4. InCopy files now contain proxy/preview images
  5. Default location for assignments and assigned content, and file Ghosting Unmanaged Stories
  6. When opening an assignment, stories not included in that assignment will be dimmed or ghosted back.

XML Improvements

  1. Import CALS tables as InDesign tables: There will be an additional option in the Import Options dialog when importing XML, to convert any CALS tables in the incoming XML into InDesign tables.
  2. Apply XSLT on import: There will be an additional option in the Import Options dialog when importing XML, to specify an XSLT to be applied to the incoming XML.
  3. XML Rules: Users will be able to create a set of layout rules via scripting, which can be applied to incoming or existing XML to perform actions such as formatting, and creating frames. This feature is only accessible via scripting.
  4. Insert Parent Element command:  An new command to insert a parent element above a selected element is available in the Structure view menu or the context menu when an element is selected.
